My Felix the Cat Collection Causes Smiles

My Felix the Cat Collection Causes Smiles

I have a Felix the Cat collection in my kitchen.  I have been asked by many who visit my kitchen, including my granddaughter, why I have such a collection in my kitchen.  The answer is that just looking at Felix the Cat causes me to smile; seeing those items brings a smile to my face every time.

When I was a child I watched the cartoons where Felix did not talk, only relayed the story through his actions.  I was amazed at how this cat could cause me wonder, become concerned for his well being, share his concern, become amused,  and eventually enjoy a happy ending.

One skill that Felix shared, that I admired, was his ability to ponder a situation or problem by walking, pacing, with his paws behind his back and his tail dragging on the ground.  You could see that he was lost deeply in his thoughts.  This act of meditation on his thoughts did not go unnoticed.  And, unlike me, he always came to a solution.

After a period of considering his situation, Felix always followed a plan of action.  At times he could move forward with a plan on his own, but, sometimes, he needed to work with others.  He could not always handle his problems on his own, and being a very wise cat, he knew how to convince others of the worthiness of his plan.

Later, Felix gained a voice.  I think the cartoons lost more meaning than they gained by his voice.  I still enjoy the earliest cartoons the most.

In all of the cartoons, I enjoy his smile the most.  He has the best smile!  It covers so much of his face that you don’t notice anything else.  He also has a wonderful laugh.  Even when he didn’t speak, the words accompanying his laugh got the message across so well; you had to be happy with him.

My collection contains: a cookie jar, salt & pepper shakers, bobble head figure, a keychain where he is in his magic bag of tricks, a wooden figure that you can move by pressure on the bottom disk, several different pose able figures, and on and on.

That is why I have a Felix the Cat collection in my kitchen; that is where I begin and end my day.  I enter and leave my kitchen with a smile on my face.  I’ve noticed that my guests do too.  (Now, I do own a Felix the Cat watch also…I can wear that during days when I may need a little extra cheer.)

Are you smiling…?
